I’m sorry for your plants death of Tom, but need more information to even guess an answer, although I do not think that ants were responsible. It ‘possible that you have an infestation of aphids, which attracted ants – could be the milk for their honeydew – aphids and the controller or by a massive attack that sucks most of the plants, or the introduction of a SAP-virus infection in plants and then kill them. If you are in the UK, you buy a copy of the vegetable expert Dr. DG Hessayon. You should find at any garden center or Tesco – about 5 pounds and ‘to grow an invaluable learning veg. Just a thought, but your garden is not by chance near a walnut tree? Mystery walnut tree is a chemical that is toxic to many plants and vegetables. A garden should be much more than the launch of the tree canopy. Secondly, consider a soil sample to your local extension office or university nursery, where they can do a soil test. The chemical balance of soil can be in equilibrium, tomatoes, making it ideal for once a plant has not for others. Good Luck.
